Because you can never have too many books…

Chronicle (publisher of my book The Pillow Book, and one of my favorite publishers around, all things considered) is doing a contest called Happy Haul-idays. Here’s the scoop:

It’s been a tough year for non-profits, libraries, reading rooms, and literacy programs. But you can make your favorite charity’s holiday season bright by entering the 2nd Annual Happy Haul-idays Giveaway!
This year, we’re not only giving away up to $500 worth of Chronicle books to one lucky blogger and one commenter on the winning blog post—we’re also asking the winning blogger to choose one charity to receive up to $500 of books from us. It’s just our way of spreading holiday cheer and sharing the gift of reading.

I’ve chosen Project Learn, a local (Cleveland-based) charity whose mission is to promote adult literacy and education. So, without further ado…my books!

You may sense a bit of a theme here…when I’m not doing something crafty, chances are I am cooking!
What books would you order, if you could? What are you reading these days? Don’t forget to comment — you might win, too!

There’s too many books to choose from, and I think I’ll overlap a bit with your list. I definitely like the Whole Grains cookbook, and will have some knitting and sewing books on my list. Right now I’m pouring over a stitchionary and a few other knitting books to get started designing a sweater pattern.

What a wonderful idea! I’m looking forward to perusing their site tonight to see what they have! I have to admit a similar leaning toward cookbooks. I love reading them, and it seems like they are always useful to have on hand!

I would love to read ‘Pattern Making by Dennic Chunman Lo’. I think it would be a great creature outlet for someone in a very technical career.

I have been waaaay into ordering crafty books lately, particularly sewing and knitting and spinning (oh my!). I’m also into some spirituality types of books and for fiction I lean toward YA Lit. You can take the English teacher out of the classroom, and all that … 😉

I would love to be able to donate books to my library and to the angel trees in our community. Thank you all for this chance.

My husband and I just purchased 13 acres, the gardening books would be at the top of my list and cook books most definitely would be next.
The organic garden loaded with lots of wonderful veges, I have to learn what to do with them and how to garden!

Lately the books I’m reading are picture and board books LOL! I’d love to get a copy of Chicken and Egg, I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas, Penny Saving Household Helper – among others.

I am currently burning my way through tons of YA Lit. Yes, I am too old for it, but it is such a wonderful, guilty pleasure.

I really need that gardening book! We had our first real attempt at a garden and it did all right, but I think we could do a lot better. Good luck on the contest!

I made my own list at my blog, so those are the ones I would pick, of course. If I can’t win my own list, I would love to win your amazing picks, though!

Okay, so I was surprised that you had so many cookbooks instead of craft books. I’m game! Love cookbooks too.
So, that being said, good luck to the two of us!

Oh dear…so many! I love that so many of them are centered around being thrifty. That garden anywhere sounds real appetizing! We have a RubberMade garden on our porch, since we are in an apartment in Chicago and have no lawn to speak of.
And what am I reading? There seems to be a lot of Neil Gaiman going around these days. But my roomie and I have sort of been living off Clean Food by Terry Walters and Herbs for Health and Healing by Kathi Keville. (sounds like you would love these, if you haven’t discovered them already)
    Good luck!

I almost chose Project Learn as my charity as well (as another Clevelander), but chose the Oglala Library at Pine Ridge Reservation instead. I didn’t include any craft books on my list this year (although I WAS mighty tempted!), but I couldn’t help including some of the lovely cookbooks that Chronicle carries! 🙂 Good luck!
