Poetry In Stitches

Poetry In Stitches yarn packs are available at Nordic Fiber Arts. Mmm. Have you seen that book? It’s gasp-inducing. This red cardigan is calling my name out loud, and this one is running a close second. Never mind that I have no idea how to do colorwork…yet. You’re dealing with someone who decided to learn to knit by doing a cardigan instead of a scarf.

What have I been knitting lately? Hats. Lots of hats. It’s small, like a swatch, so you can play with patterns (my new favorite: a checkerboard-y knit – purl combo…the hat pattern I favor has 80 stitches cast on circular needles, so I do 5 knit, then 5 purl for 5 rows until switching to the reverse. That’s how I did the blue-grey hat below). It’s been so snowy (18″ or so today and still going as of this very minute) that the needles beckon from their dark lair.

Also, I’ve been spinning some muted Kelly green merino, and knitting it into a hat for a friend. My challenge is spinning slowly. I can start out steady and slow, but eventually my foot gets impatient.

Coming up: sock knitting lesson this Saturday based on Cat Bordi’s Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, and a dyeing workshop at Mind’s Eye. I need to start planning the dye (and flower) garden I’m planting at my aunt’s house this summer! Oh woad is me if the online suppliers are out of dyer’s coreopsis! (bad joke, couldn’t resist, please forgive)
