NaKniSweMo already?!

This year is just flying by! It’s time once again for NaKniSweMo, my annual response to NaNoWriMo, at which I have failed many times. Last year, even the NYT got saucy about NaKniSweMo, so why not give it a go?
When I started NaKniSweMo (years ago now…wow), Ravelry was but a blink in Casey’s eye, and so we did everything here at Knitgrrl. These days, we’ve got our own HQ over at Rav, so join us there!
Why try to knit a sweater in less than a month? Well, there’s fame, glory and prizes, among other things, plus the applause of your knitterly peers. So join us, and make tomorrow’s cast on count!

I tried once several years ago – even made it to ten sweaters. I decided it took too much attention away from my beloved socks!

I was doing well at NaNoWriMo, up to 15,000 words, when I finally decided to finish that “Carver’s Harbour Blanket” project, inspired by How to Knit in the Woods. I finished the piecing of felted sweater squares last year, and this year sewed on a flannel backing to stabilize the quilt and so my son and his beloved can sleep with it. It’s made of 9 squares by 7 squares of about 10 inches each. Unfortunately just too big for one flannel sheet on the back so all that retrofitting with cut up flannel pillowcases took a lot of time, but I finished it last night (American Thanksgiving, which we don’t celebrate in Canada).
I also managed to avoid “winning” at NaNoWriMo by finally finishing knitting a pair of socks for a friend.
You are right, NaNoWriMo and knitting aren’t entirely compatible unless you make one of them a priority. Looking forward to when I finally finish my novels, but knitted things are warmer.
