What happened to today? / Happy 2008!
I should say “yesterday,” since it’s currently closing in on 4:00 a.m. my time. See, we have a Sunday morning ritual at our house that involves a lot of coffee and watching all the political talk shows (alternately yelling at the screen and getting up for more coffee). I’ve had a book idea brewing in the back of my head for a while and it just would not shut up. So I said to myself, ok, I’ll get the basics for the proposal on paper, maybe write a sample of contents…
Fast forward 14 hours later (subtract a few hours for picking up Chinese takeout at dinner, bathroom breaks, a chat with Andi, a chat with my mom and more coffee) and I’m almost 10,000 words into a new book manuscript draft. 9902 words, to be exact.
No, I’m not kidding.
I guess it really wanted out of my head, eh? My eyes are actually starting to blur, but I’m not tired at all, I want to keep writing. If I could knit as fast I as I can write, my entire wardrobe would be knitted, right down to the bra! Guess writing is my true superpower, though having mystical house-cleaning powers would often be more handy.
But that’s not why I’m logging in, bleary-eyed — I wanted to remind you all you have about 20 more hours to do the survey before it ends! Several hundred Knitgrrl readers have completed it so far, so the competition is stiff, but who knows? You could be the one who wins a Yarn Club membership or any other one of our 2008 clubs.
So, if I end up sleeping through the New Year (unlikely, my boyfriend and our dear friends are dragging me out of the house this year), let me wish you a very, very happy 2008 now!
Happy New Year! We always watch the political news shows on Sunday too – although minus the coffee and up the yelling! Good luck with the new book! I know that feeling of having to get something out of your head.
Wow. you definitely had something working it’s way out! I have those days where I don’t know where they went, but none so productive as yours!
Thanks! And yes, I guess it really did want out! I was awake until about 6 and then I realized I was supposed to do an interview with a reporter at 10:30, so I figured sleep would be a good idea, especially since they were sending over a photographer at noon. I can’t even imagine how those shots are going to look… keep your fingers crossed!

Wow, that’s an amazing amount of work! I vowed that this would be the year I at least got a rough draft of my novel completed (or novels, as I always come up with new ideas that I just don’t want to let go of). Just like I have vowed that every year for the past few years. I don’t really lack ideas and sometimes I don’t even lack time and drive. I just plot everything out in my head, overthink it instead of typing it out, and then I don’t want to deal with it anymore for a while.
Good luck on getting that novel finished and published. What genre is it?
