Queen Amidala Pirate
Oh, Rowan. Rowan, Rowan, Rowan. I love your magazines as much as any other knitter out there, but this Queen Amidala pirate look has got to go. Seriously. Heather and I went to River Color Studio last night and I bought the not-brand-new issue of Rowan mag because the latest one was full of models who looked as if they might keelhaul you under that floaty thing in the Galactic Senate.
(The fact that I can make both pirate and Star Wars references in the same sentence pretty much confirms I’m a geek, no? Although, you’ve got to admit that the Amidala costumes were the best part of all recent SW movies).
The Tribal Collection (click link for slideshow of images) is what I’m talking about here. Mind you, I’d probably wear some of those patterns. Brandon Mably, Kaffe Fassett…love the colorwork. Haven’t the time or patience for it right now, but in general, I love it. However, when you style these gorgeous pieces with stuff that screams parrots, pieces of eight, rum and the lash, you’re kinda asking for it, mockery-wise.
And I’d still dress up like a Queen Amidala pirate before I’d wear most of the stuff that’s made it onto You Knit What? lately. Come on, Berroco. What are you thinking? I’ve got some Berroco patterns from 2002ish that are actually wearable…their recent descent into novelty-yarn-heck has been a disappointment, to say the least.
p.s. Rowan dear? Secretly, I’m in love with the pirate styling. It’s just tough to pull off when you live in Cleveland. Should I move to the high seas, we’ll discuss further.
