Thanks for all the birthday wishes, Facebook friends! Yowza. I’ve been offline for 24+ hrs trying to finish up a sweater (Copine) for Yarn Forward #11 that absolutely HAS to be to Fedex no later than tomorrow and, after knitting 12+ hrs yesterday and losing pretty much all sensation in my hands…
(I’m not kidding. I thought they were going to fall off)
…checking in for a minute to find so many messages was both overwhelming and, frankly, awesome. Stopped up at the store — Meg and Heidi got me raspberry almond cake, yum — but now it is back to knitting. Y’know that scene in the original Star Wars when Luke’s flying in to take out the Death Star? The whole “stay on target…stay on target…” scene? Yeah, that’s me right now.
Or, in knitting parlance, to steal the original script and yarn it up a bit:
Gold Two: [the designer is running the gauntlet towards a Fedex deadline] The needles – they’ve stopped!
Gold Five: [realizes why] Stabilize your yarn swift…find your ballwinder.
Gold Leader: They’re coming in! Three increases at 2-10!
[Gold Two can no longer feel her fingers; Gold Leader starts to panic]
Gold Leader: It’s no good, I can’t maneuver!
Gold Five: Stay on target.
Gold Leader: *We’re too close!*
Gold Five: Stay on target!
Gold Leader: [shouts] Loosen up your stitches!
[she too is on a deadline; Gold Five tries to escape but is fatally winged]
Gold Five: Gold Five to Red leader, lost Tiree, lost Dutch.
Red Leader: I copy, Gold Leader.
Gold Five: It came from… behind!
Wow. I am such a major geek. (This may be why we’re going rollerskating for my birthday on Thursday)
