NWA — Minneapolis — Hungary

by Shannon on November 7, 2007

I leave for Minneapolis today to teach (see the Events page for info), but I wanted to post a major-league shout-out to Northwest Airlines before I go. I haven’t been feeling so hot this week, so I left packing til the last minute — namely, this morning.

Well, when I woke up, I found out my boyfriend’s grandmother in Hungary had died. So I spent my morning getting his mom onto a flight with my frequent flyer miles. Can I just say how incredibly awesome the people at Northwest are? Within 30 minutes we had flights booked for just the cost of taxes, and they made every effort to get her on the ASAP flight of her choice, too. Seriously awesome, especially given that everywhere else was giving us quotes of $1300 to $3000. Three thousand dollars? For that amount of money, they better be putting her on someone’s back and carrying her over!

Normally I plug knitting books, yarn and other fibery things here, but since NWA made my day, I thought I’d let you all know how great they are, too. Good people.

In (related, I suppose) other news, we just got in a giant shipment of needlepoint patterns from Hungary at the shop. They’re really good inspiration for stitch patterns, too, so don’t discount them if you only knit. From colorwork to just simple knit-purl patterns, they really pack a punch. I’ll try to get some detail photos of a sweater we did for Lana Grossa posted so you can see what I mean.

Ohhh. Wow, that’s a lot going on. First, feel better. I hope the trip goes well–both yours and bf’s mom. The other thing–I’ve had weird luck with airlines lately. No delays for any of my trips for the book at all. Also, when it counted, when I HAD to use frequent flier miles, I was often able to make it work seamlessly. When it wasn’t completely necessary? Like when I thought maybe I should take a trip, maybe not, it wasn’t so important? It didn’t work out. I’m beginning to believe there is a Hindu deity or cosmic order about making flights work. What happens seems to have some sort of reason in the end…and that surprises me. With a death in the family… Thank goodness NWA did such a good job for you. I’d cheer too.
