Tech editing class enrolling now

Once again by popular demand, I’ve added a new class to the curriculum over in my virtual classroom space. Co-taught by experienced (and dare I say very, very talented) technical editor Alexandra Virgiel and myself, the class will cover…

Ease, sizing standards, fit, set-in sleeves and sleeve cap calculations, grading (and how to do it for knitting patterns!) grading set-in sleeve pullovers, grading top-down pullovers, grading around design elements such as motifs and special topics, such as grading for men and children, how to draw schematics using Open Office, charting software, and much more.

Alexandra was my right hand (and sometimes my left, too!) as tech editor of Yarn Forward during my editing tenure. I’ve seen her take on problems that would make a lesser tech editor cry. If you want a logical, reasoned approach to multisizing patterns and “doing the math” of knitting, she’s the one you want in your corner.

Experience level: intermediate, you should already be writing patterns, even if you haven’t published them yet, and have some idea of what goes into a pattern, element-wise
Price: $65
Class begins: as soon as we hit enrollment limits, and continues for a month afterward (can be longer if we decide it is appropriate)

[21 April: Edited to add that the class is now sold out. If you’d like to take the next one when it is offered, join the Knitgrrl Ning and leave a comment here!]

I just registered! This is a class I’ve needed for a long time now… I feel like I’ve relied on black magic in sizing my patterns so far. Can’t wait!

I think I just found my birthday present from the OH. Must be nice to him tonight when he comes home before hitting him up for the cash LOL

    Just a few questions 🙂
What will the class materials look like? Will we have access to the material once the class is over? How much time should we need to complete the class?
My schedule is a bit crazy right now but I would like to register if I can make it 🙂 Thanks!

Hi Isabelle! It’s taught online, so materials are provided as PDFs and other downloadable goodness (which you’ll have after class). My recommendation is to download any PDFs, videos (if we do any for this class), etc as they’re posted so you’ll have access after class. Class will run for about a month, perhaps a bit longer if we need it!

    Hi Shannon,

Is this class suitable for someone who is primarily interested in designing crochet patterns?

Yes, Shelby, I should think so as long as you’re flexible and don’t mind us knitters nattering on… 😉
