And the award goes to…

Big news! I’ve been chosen to create the awards that will be presented at the 34th annual Cleveland International Film Festival. Made from my handmade, hand-dyed wool felt, the awards will be given to four top filmmakers from all over the world. (See page 21 in the festival guide!)

One of the other local artists previously chosen for this honor is Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson. Her textile work is fantastic, so you can imagine I’m pretty excited about the whole thing.

And mind you, there is no such thing as ‘official feltmaker,’ but I made this image for myself as a giggle. The felt pieces are based on the colored shapes design of the official festival poster (see below). I had to change tack a bit and do more needlefelting than I’d anticipated, but they’re coming along beautifully and it’s so great to be involved.

So, that’s why the sweater I’m knitting for my dad as a surprise “thank you for renovating my kitchen!” is on hold, and that’s why I’ve been ever so slightly more crazed than usual…
